Sandur Polytechnic was established in 1988 and is managed by Shivapur Shikshana Samiti, Sandur which was founded in 1965 by Late Dr. M.Y.Ghorpade, former Minister for Rural Development & Panchayat Raj, Govt. of Karnataka to cater to educational needs of Sandur and the neighbouring areas. The Polytechnic is supported by the Sandur Manganese & Iron Ores Ltd, (SMIORE), Sandur.

Sandur polytechnic is recognized by the Govt. of Karnataka and All India Council for Technical Education, New Delhi and administrated by a Governing Council comprising representatives of Shivapur Shikshana Samiti, Department of Technical Education, AICTE and Industries/educationists/technologists in the region.

We have ensured quality class room instructions with use of modern teaching-aids like LCD, Overhead and Slide Projectors and Audio-Video CDs. Early syllabus completion in both theory and practicals followed by intense revision are the main stay of the academic excellence.

Scholarships and Gold Medals

The Sandur Manganese and Iron Ores Ltd. (SMIORE), has instituted merit-cum-means annual Scholarships to deserving students, where 50% of their total fees will be paid by Karnataka Seva Sangha on behalf of SMIORE. In addition, Smt. Mahalakshmi Freeship is given to one student every year for the entire course. The toppers in Final year are given Gold Medals by the company.
